Upcoming smartphones 2017-2018: What's coming next year?
Motorola Moto X4: Late-November 2017
The Moto X4 was showcased at IFA 2017 in Berlin. The phone will cost around £380 and was bound to go on sale in September 2017. As of yet, it still hasn't been released in the UK, while pre-orders have opened in the US. We expect the phone to launch in Europe in late-November 2017 instead.
The 5.2in phone has a Full HD display, a dual-camera (12- and 8-megapixel), a front 16-megapixel selfie camera, a Snapdragon 630 with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage that can be expanded through its microSD card slot.
LG V30: 3 November 2017
Showcased at IFA 2017, the LG V30 is a 6in QHD+ smartphone that ships with a Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM, has an impressive dual-lens camera and features a stunning 18:9 aspect ratio display. In many ways, this is the phone the LG G6 should have been. The phone has officially launched in South Korea and its UK price and release date are imminent - presumed to come out in November 2017.
iPhone X: 3 November 2017
The most innovative phone from Apple is almost here. Announced on 12 September, the tech-giant showcased its big flagship phone - the iPhone X. This new-venture from Apple incorporates an elongated display, which replicates the same elongated display of the Galaxy S8, LG G6, LG V30 and Xiaomi Mi Mix 2.
The phone doesn't come cheap - at a base price of £999, it's one of the most expensive phones you'll find on the market. The key selling point? Face ID, a clever way of unlocking your phone, by simply looking at it.
Honor 10: 5 December 2017
The Honor 9 is an incredibly impressive phone, and with Huawei launching the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro, it was only natural for the Honor 10 to come around. The new flagship phone will be unveiled in London on 5 December 2017. Given its siblings, we expect the Honor 10 to feature an 18:9 HDR display and a Kirin 970 chip with AI learning capabilities.
Expect the phone to cost under £400 and be available just before Christmas. It's one of the most exciting phones to look forward to, given its estimated price tag - this might be the cheapest and yet one of the fastest 18:9 smartphones around.
Nokia 9: February 2018
There's very little known about the Nokia 9, but we'd expect a flagship device to come from the Finnish company, topping the Nokia 6. If the rumours are true, expect a full metal unibody design, a blisteringly fast Snapdragon 835 processor, a QHD display, 13-megapixel dual-lens cameras, and of course, the latest iteration of Android Nougat. Initially, it was anticipated to launch in summer 2017 and then late-2017, but now it is looking incredibly likely for an MWC 2018 launch.
Samsung Galaxy S9: March 2018
There is very little known about the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+, but they're expected to come out in March 2018, after MWC 2018. The new Samsung phone is rumoured to be an absolute giant. Following on from its predecessor the Galaxy S8 and S8+. The new upcoming Samsung phones have a lot to do. Expect the very best - a Snapdragon 845, an HDR display, two 12-megapixel cameras with 10x optical zoom, 64GB of internal storage, a rear-mounted fingerprint reader and face unlocking.
